While working at PETA, I composed the script for the below video that was narrated by Republican strategist (and self-confessed meat-eater) Mary Matalin, who appealed to fellow conservatives in states around the country that were considering “ag gag” bills – bills that, if enacted, would ban the filming of horrific, often illegal abuses on factory farms. Matalin appealed to lawmakers to strike down the bills, which would have unconstitutionally deprived citizens of their right to document and provide evidence of such abuse to law enforcement.
The video was effective in helping to kill bills around the state, including in Tennessee, whose governor vetoed the heinous bill, which he perceived as a threat to the words of the Constitution, just days before it would have been etched into law.
